The Peer Recovery Zone meets at 811 D Ave. in the conference room on Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.For anyone 18 years and older, come and join the fun! Bring a snack or drink and stay the day. This is a safe place where people can connect with others sharing same life experiences.While at the PRZ you can have healthy discussions, participate in workshops and crafts and have fun while spending time with people just like you.

Katie Cox updates Vinton Kiwanis on Winter Illnesses and Care

The Director of Benton County Health, Katie Cox, spoke to the area Kiwanis Club sharing with the group updates on the illnesses making the round this winter. Starting with the flu, Cox reminded everyone that as we approach the winter season and are indoors together more, the same preventative measure that we've been using still applies. Hand washing, staying home if you're ill, cleaning surfaces, and not touching your face were on the top of her list.

Virginia Gay Hospital Receives Performance Leadership Award for Outcomes

As part of the National Rural Health Day celebration, Virginia Gay Hospital today announced it has been recognized with a 2022 Performance Leadership Award for excellence in Outcomes. Compiled by The Chartis Center for Rural Health, the Performance Leadership Awards honor top quartile performance (e.g., 75th percentile or above) among rural hospitals in Quality, Outcomes and Patient Perspective.

Did you know that ASAC's prevention team offers naloxone (Narcan) training for groups or individuals? Naloxone is the best way to assist someone experience an opioid overdose and can save a life. ASAC's Prevention Specialists recommend that anyone who uses, or is close to someone who uses, illicit or prescribed opioids be trained to the use of naloxone.

Miller announces Iowa to receive $19.9 million in Walmart opioid settlement

Attorney General Tom Miller announced today that he and a coalition of attorneys general have reached a $3.1 billion settlement with Walmart to resolve allegations that the company contributed to the opioid crisis by failing to appropriately oversee the dispensing of opioids at its stores. The settlement will provide more than $19.9 million to Iowa and will require significant improvements in how Walmart's pharmacies handle opioids.
